Engineering experience. Commercial focus
About Oliver Lythgoe
I have spent more than 25 years working in the off-highway machinery industry, across engineering, product development, sales and marketing.
I started my career as an electronic engineer and have worked on more than 100 machine programmes. Since then, I have led market research, product definition, launches and commercial development for technologies used across construction, agriculture, materials handling, power generation and other specialist machinery.
This combination matters. I understand the technology, but also the difficult commercial work required to turn technical capability into OEM revenue.
Experience across the commercial journey
My experience includes:
Market research and opportunity assessment
Product strategy, definition and launch
OEM account development
Positioning and value propositions
Sales and marketing leadership
Account-based marketing and pipeline development
International market entry
Building modern digital and AI-enabled commercial capability
I have worked with products including electronic controls, software, machine vision, engineering AI, hydraulics, power systems, automation and other technologies used in mobile machinery.
Deep experience. Modern commercial methods.
Off-highway remains a relationship-driven industry, but relationships alone no longer provide sufficient market coverage.
I combine sector knowledge with account-based marketing, structured market intelligence, digital outreach and practical use of AI. This makes it possible to identify opportunities, reach wider buying networks and support sales activity more systematically, without building a large commercial team.
Positioned for a global industry
Off-highway is a global industry, and I'm set up to work in it that way. I have senior leadership experience working in international businesses, operating day-to-day in my second language — fluent in French, with working German, and comfortable operating across Romance and Germanic-language business environments.
I've worked directly with OEMs in China, the USA, Germany, Italy, France, the UK, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Spain, South Korea and Japan.
Based 40 minutes from Stansted — the UK's best-connected airport for Europe, second only to Munich across the continent — and 90 minutes from Heathrow, the world's most internationally connected airport for three years running. Wherever your team or your customers are, I can usually get there directly, and fast.
How it works
01
Scoping call
A conversation to understand where you're stuck and what growth actually looks like for you.
02
Diagnostic
A short review of your prioritisation, pipeline, and go-to-market approach.
01
Proposal
A clear recommendation, shaped to the problem — not a fixed package.
Why not an agency or a hire? You're getting me directly — no account layers, no ramp-up — for exactly as much time as the work needs. I don't run a delivery team, so I'm often the person working alongside your people, not replacing them.
Pricing Guidance
Short-term and project work is typically charged at $150 per hour.
Longer-term retainers, where the relationship runs over months rather than weeks, are typically $125 per hour — reflecting the different kind of commitment on both sides.
Exact terms are agreed after the scoping call, once we both know what the work actually involves.
